Join us for a weekend exploring the historic town of Maryborough and surrounds including the Howard Country Markets. Maryborough has a host of beautiful old buildings rich in history of early Queensland. All within walking distance around the CBD area including the Port Side Precinct, Mary Poppins Statue, Mary Ann Steam Train, The Cistern Chapel (public toilets at the Town Hall), ANZAC Memorial, Military and Colonial Museum, Railway Museum and beautifully restored / kept buildings including Customs House, Court House, Post Office, School of Arts. Maryborough is also known for being the birthplace of Mary Poppins’ author, Pamela Lyndon Travers (look for the Mary Poppins pedestrian crossing signs at intersections).

Saturday:
Depart at 7am and travel up the highway to the town of Howard about 30km’s north of Maryborough. (Stopping for a short 15 minute break in the little town of Gunalda just north of Gympie)
Howard hosts the Country Markets 1st Saturday of each month. There are lots of quirky little stalls, fresh local produce, food vans etc. Markets close at mid-day so that should give us a couple of hours to wander around. After the markets we can head off to Hervey Bay (40km’s) and enjoy a take away Fish n Chip lunch at the Urangan Pier. There are several fish n chip shops to choose from. After lunch we will travel into Maryborough and visit the historic Brennan and Geraghty’s Store. After that, time to check into motel. (Dinner arrangements to be decided)

Sunday:
Check out of motel and enjoy breakfast in the CBD area (Venue TBC). Then you are free to wander and explore the rich history of Maryborough. Everything is within walking distance. Plan to leave around 1 to 1:30pm for the return trip home. If time permits we could stop off at Tiaro to the Hideaway (aka Station Hotel) for a quick refreshment before continuing our trip home. Of course you are welcome to leave earlier or later if you wish.
